The Roseneath Hidden Park
Oriental Bay is probably THE classic Wellington picnic spot, but head just a little further and you’ll be treated to a true hidden gem. The Roseneath Hidden Park features fantastic views of the harbour and is accessed via a massive slide from the car park – how cool is that?
You’ll spend more time on the slide than on the picnic blanke
Mount Victoria
For unparalleled views of the city, you can’t beat heading up Mt Vic. But don’t feel inclined to dine at the lookout – Mt Vic is chocker with trails, open fields, and parks, all vying to be your picnic pick. If you’re after something a bit different, head towards the southern end of Mt Vic and kick back on the steps looking over the velodrome.

The Wellington Botanic Gardens
Wellington is blessed to have some of the finest botanic gardens around, and they make for picnic perfection. Make your way up to the Krupp Gun if you’re after views of the city, or pick a spot in the Lady Norwood Rose Garden to bask in the floral bliss.
May we suggest bringing a chilled bottle of Rosé?
Otari-Wilton’s Bush
Leave time to explore!
Get your bush on at New Zealand’s only botanic garden dedicated solely to native plants. Chow down in the Troup picnic area, and then explore some of Wellington’s best tracks. Make sure to check out the canopy walkway!
Massey Memorial
For spectacular views and a sweet ocean breeze, head on up to the Massey Memorial. The ride out there takes you along some stunning coastline, and the views make an idyllic backdrop for the mausoleum memorial.
A majestic picnic spot.
