      3. Skyline Walkway

Journey along Wellington’s highest peaks from Johnsonville to the summit of Mount Kaukau and end by descending through Mākara Peak Mountain Bike Park

Wellington Regional Trails have put together a great guide of riding this trail

    https://www.wellingtonregionaltrails.com/trails/skyline-walkway/

Our favourite way to ride the trail is to take take your bike on the train (Wellington Railway station is only 5min from our store) and get off at Johnsonville Station, then ride to Old Coach Road to start the trail. You follow the undulating- and often steep ridgeline- to finally descent through Mākara Peak Mountain Bike Park. You then follow Karori Rd back to the city, past Parliament and back to our store on the Wellington Waterfront

An eMTB is very well suited to this trail as there a several straight and very steep sections- a lot of fun on an eBike and a good grind on a regular bike.

Extremely good views from the ridges..extremely windy when it’s windy.

This trail is mostly double track but there are some more challenging single track sections, so is rated as a Grade 4 mountain biking trail.
