The CUBE Town Sport Hybrid ONE is a comfort or commuter bike with a very easy to mount low-step frame that also delivers a really exceptional level of quality for the price point. When we first heard about these bikes we were impressed and a little skeptical because it’s uncommon for a bike using the BOSCH drive system not to exceed $4000, and I wondered if that might mean the rest of the bike would be low quality in order to make up cost saving.
When we got our hands on these bikes though we could see pretty quickly that was nothing to worry about. Cube have brought that price down impressively low without compromising on the quality of gears, bakes, tyres or other components. We still have Schwalbe tyres with excellent puncture protection, Shimano 9-Speed gears, hydraulic Shimano disc brakes, great wheels and all the rest that you need on a really solid, reliable bike that will keep a nice ride for a really long time. The Bosch drive system is exceptionally reliable, very well supported and has that super solid, reassuring feel like german cars do.
All that, combined with the upright position and how easy it is to get on and off, makes a really pleasurable ride.
This model is cheaper than the similar Cube Touring Hybrid ONE which we also offer, and there are 2 reasons for that. This bike has a standard 25km/hr Bosch drive unit, while the Touring Hybrid ONE is one of the first bikes available in NZ with a Bosch drive unit that can go up to 32km/hr – these have only come available on any bikes since late 2018 and are still hard to come by. That doesn’t affect the power of the drive unit, only the governed speed limit, above which the drive unit stops helping and the bike becomes effectively an ordinary bike. For many or perhaps even most riders, 25km/hr is well fast enough, so if that’s you then you might want to take the advantage of this opportunity for a cheaper bike presented here. Others will want to ride a little faster and should go for a 32km/hr option.
This bike also has the standard size 400 wh battery while the Touring Hybrid ONE has the 500 wh battery. That bigger range is an objective advantage, however, almost all of our rentals at Switched on Bikes have 400 wh batteries and we’ve found that they’re more than enough for 98% of the riders who go out from our shop – so it could also be said that the standard size battery is not really a disadvantage.
Having had a lot of these bikes in our rental fleet, we can say for certain that our customers love them and are really happy to get to ride such excellent quality, easy and comfortable bikes.
